The trajectory of Enrico Del Debbio’s career and the design of the headquarters and the many subsequent extensions of the Faculty of Architecture in Rome are indissolubly intertwined over the course of forty years, from 1925 to 1965, during which time not only the evolution of the architect’s thinking about design but also the changing cultural scene at the Faculty may be followed in parallel.In charge of drafting the project for the first Valle Giulia site and then of all the subsequent extensions and modifications, not all of them executed, Del Debbio’s work provides what is perhaps a unique cross-section of a continuous reflection on the same theme and on the same site while the context of cultural conditions varies.
